Can you help us with our summer project to buy school essentials for Hackney children ? Watch our video and read below to find out more.
It's expensive buying everything children need for school. Many families tell us how difficult it is for them to afford essential school items.
Not having the right things can mean children worry about getting into trouble or not fitting in with their friends. Without stationery and other items, young people find it hard to keep up with homework. Going to school without proper shoes means children are uncomfortable and distracted. Worries about being bullied make everything worse.
Our inspiration for this 'Back to School' fundraiser is a poem Khaleel wrote when he was 10 years old about his 'dream shoes'. His dream shoes weren't fancy; they were 'simple, comfortable shoes'. They were shoes 'where the bottom is not falling off or the front opening like a crocodile's mouth'. He wanted shoes to let him walk and run and keep his feet happy. Shoes are important! So are backpacks, water bottles, pens, folders, calculators and all the other bits and pieces children and young people use at school.
We'll be spending time this summer stocking up on school essentials so that the children we work with can go back to school in September ready to learn and ready to enjoy school. Please join us!
